On Saturday evening I sat and ate dinner in my own restaurant for the very last time. The meal was faultless and I could not be more proud of what I and my team have achieved here at The Black Horse in the last 12 years. But, all good things must come to an end, as they say, and the events of recent years have taken most of the fun out of running the business that I love and to see the restaurant closed on a Saturday evening because we can only fill or staff the bar is soul destroying, so last weekend was our last.

I have had some great times, learned a lot, met some lovely people and made, what I hope, are life long friends, but now feels like the right time to move onto new challenges (and less back breaking work).

None of what has been achieved at The Black Horse would have been possible without the incredible talent, imagination, loyalty and sheer bloody hard work of my chef Wendy who will be taking a few months off to enjoy her garden and decide on her next move. I wish her and the rest of the team at The Black Horse, past & present all the best for the future.

All that remains is to thank you my lovely customers for your support, for your kind word of appreciation which kept us going when things got tough and for your patience when things weren’t exactly right. To serve you has been my absolute privilege and I hope you will remember your visits to The Black Horse with fondness, as I will.

Take care
